Listen to some of this stuff whether or not you’ve played the game, please. Because I won’t be surprised if you’ve never even heard of it. If you like Okami’s music especially, though, I highly recommend this.
I found this soundtrack last week—I could only find it on Japanese sites, and I was terrified that it was just another awesome thing denied to non-Japanese. But lo and behold, you can buy it in iTunes! So I’ve been listening to it a lot. Four of the fourteen songs are unused boss themes, and they’re cool, but honestly I wish they had used that space for some of my other favorites from the soundtrack, like “Gods of Heaven and Earth” or “Powerful-Looking”. However, they did include “Losing Consciousness”, and that is the only song I really need.
It has most of the power of the original soundtrack, but less intense percussion and brass, so it loses a lot of that rock/metal feel. The songs they arranged are also mostly on the milder side. But the live instruments and lack of loops make it far more elegant, and so it’s just really nice to listen to. And the people who play the shakuhachi and erhu are amazing. And sometimes there are neat jazzy parts or electric guitar. And I just want more music like this to exist, because overall the music is essentially a perfect cross between older Western symphonic and gagaku (Japanese court music, lit. “elegant music”) structures with some modern sounds… it’s so well done, and they’re blended together so flawlessly.
Not gonna lie, though, “Playing for Keeps” has major Legend of Zelda vibes (specifically Twilight Princess, I think) and “Main Theme” screams John Williams. Japanese Star Wars—oh, wait, I have something to post about that…
And can I just say that all of Muramasa’s music makes some of the best use of string instruments I’ve ever heard?

“I’m not a fan of people who talk too much…” How the hell do you put up with me then?
Because you at least have intelligent things to say, you don’t constantly state the obvious, and also you aren’t constantly all “HEY! LISTEN!” in my face.
I had to think about this for a while. XD I don’t like some of the songs. There are some I couldn’t stand at first, like “Cursed Seiankyou”, but I sort of got used to it; there are others I used to like, such as “Issun’s Theme”, and now they kind of annoy me (rather like Issun himself, actually). Issun was pretty funny for the first few playthroughs, but after a while I was like
